Boxing Day

9:23pm Thursday. 29C in the cave. Outside the cave it has come down to 29C. The max today was 39C. The overnight low was 25C. Am I dying? Silly question.

The ‘lounge/kitchen’ area, the 29C area, is on the external wall and it acts like the brick pizza oven.

The ‘bedroom/bathroom’ box is protected from direct sunshine and has less brick wall length to absorb the heat and is perceptibly cooler. About 2:00am last night I gave up and went to bed. Obviously didn’t use a quilt cover. I watched YouTube on the iPad for 15minutes then gave in to sleep. Yes, I had no clothes on and I think I fell asleep instantly. It was good. I got a bit over 4 hours sleep.

I have kept the bedroom area closed off and when I go for a wee I notice it is still cooler in that area.

FLASH!!!— The temp is dropping outside. Quickly. A fierce wind has sprung up. A battle front between the hot northerly winds and the cool southerlies. In 10 minutes the temp has dropped 10C.

I have opened the wind tunnel between the kitchen window and the front door. Short, fierce, blasts of cooler air are racing through the cave. I can feel the change in my mental and physical being. Only repeated sleeping spells have kept me sane these last two days. The smothering heat has made movement and decision making almost impossible for me.

Something new… Those fierce blasts of air are laden with the smell of smoke. It wont be ‘local’ fires. It will be smoke carried from bush fires burning 60 to 100k outside of Melbourne.
